4-7-8 Breathing Technique
This breathing technique enables you to exhale “old air” that you stack in your lungs during the day. As this “old air” builds up, room for fresh air gets less, and you will start to take more shallow breaths, more often.
Completing this breathing technique will instantly make you feel more relaxed and ease your breathing. You may use this technique to relax before falling asleep.
- Lie down on a comfortable surface.
- Place both hands on your stomach area.
- Gently inhale to the count of 4.
- Hold that breath for 7 counts.
- Gently exhale for 8 counts.
- Repeat the cycle 3 to 4 times, or until you fall asleep.
