So, the past few weeks have been filled with the beauty of the British outdoors that is absolutely magnificent during the summer months. I have been totally blown away by the natural environment commonly known as “Surrey Hills of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. Google it. Jaw dropping scenes of majestic landscapes; beautiful pink heather, streams meandering through forests, quiet meadows with horses grazing nearby or the narrow winding paths of a woodland tucked away from the masses. O yes, the English countryside is legendary. Think of the classic period dramas and I need explain no further.

A few weeks ago, we ventured out to Shere, a tiny village nestling in the heart of Surrey and known for movies like “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason”, and “The Holiday”. O my goodness, nature on another level! The 9km walk through this area left us feeling invigorated and energized, with our three little pooches taking it all in their stride. Another memorable hike was around the area of Frensham, a most spectacular route that took us along a stream, passing large ponds and a beach, following narrow paths with meadows on either side.

But what surprised me, was the lack of masks being worn – we were among the very few donning these ever-present accessory items (not to forget keeping the hand sanitizer close, just in case), always ensuring we kept our distance from others.

Many folks went to Europe for a summer break, returning to the UK and having to quarantine.

And now? The number of coronavirus infections have been creeping up and up and who knows where that will go. Suddenly, I’ve noticed more masks being worn outside this past week, after announcements from government were made about the increasing numbers.

With South Africa announcing the lifting of further restrictions last night, may I caution you, wear your mask, wash your hands regularly and remember to socially distance according to the official guidelines.

Do not let your guard down, this virus is a sneaky little minx that can creep up on one very unexpectedly if we do not remain vigilant and alert!
